Try Your Hand at a Homemade Cold-and-Flu-Buster Tea
Being sick is bad enough, but when you add the same old, same old over-the-counter medicines it gets downright boring. The next time you find yourself sniffling and feel a cold coming on - and before you find yourself in your horizontal office - you should make a homemade cold-and-flu-buster tea. You may not feel up to par, but there's something about making a tonic from scratch and with fresh ingredients that provides a bit more comfort when you're feeling under the weather.
1/4 cup coriander seeds
1 (1 1/2”) cinnamon stick
1 bunch rosemary, rinsed
1 bunch cilantro, rinsed
2 bags detox tea
1 tablespoon raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon raw honey
1 2” piece ginger, peeled and finely grated
Place a small skillet over medium heat. Add coriander seeds and cinnamon stick to skillet; stir every now and then for about 4 minutes until toasted and fragrant. Transfer coriander seeds and cinnamon stick to a cutting board. Using the side of a chef's knife, crush the seeds and stick. Place the crushed seeds and stick into a large saucepan that is set over medium-high heat. Add 4 cups of water to saucepan and cook until an instant-read thermometer registers 100˚.
Using the side of a chef's knife, slightly bruise the rosemary and cilantro. Add rosemary, cilantro, tea bags, vinegar, honey, and ginger to saucepan; stir until honey dissolves. Reduce heat to low and steep for about 15 minutes. Using a fine sieve, strain into a quart jar. MAKES 4 CUPS
